About

What is FLOW?

Daniel Pink in Drive describes Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi’s theory of flow as:

  • the highest most satisfying experiences in peoples lives
  • goals are clear: you have to reach the top of a mountain, the mountain top gets closer (or further).
  • the relationship of what a person had to do and what he could do is perfect: the challenge was not too easy nor too difficult
  • living deeply in the moment and feeling so utterly in control – that the sense of time, place and even self melt away

Purpose

This site was created to share information about myself (when I’m in flow – and sometimes when I’m not) and to serve as a venue for sharing thoughts, ideas, books and other items of interest.

Me

Born in New York City, raised in California, I was an active kid, frequently testing my limits – sometimes this was good and others not so much.  Growing up I always had an interest in technology and business, frequently “learning” about computers via computer games and losing my parents money in the stock market.  Fortunately, as time does with most things, I matured, grew and have learned a lot since then.

I jumped into college as the dot com bubble surged ahead and quickly developed an interest in computer science, but managing to mix in a few business courses while at Loyola Marymount University.  My timing was impeccable, with the bubble popping just as I started to get a grasp on the technology.  With the technology bubble burst, I went to work in the financial industry while expanding my real estate and business knowledge with an MBA from UNC Charlotte.

From an early age I have had an entrepreneurial drive; from the ubiquitous paper route as a kid in California to launching several technology companies while in college.  This drive continues today, more recently launching several online projects and founding a boutique (that sounds better than small time, right?) real estate investment company.

Several years ago I began a journey of personal development that continues today.  Wanting to make the most of my talent, abilities and opportunities and create a great life for me and my family I continued my love of learning through consistent reading.  Through all of this I have learned a great deal on the philosophy of business and success, but more importantly, I have learned what is possible for my family and our life.

Now

Today I live in Charlotte, NC and apply my skills as a property manager for a commercial office portfolio.  In the evenings and on the weekends I spend my time on an array of things: training for an Ironman, fund raising for Room To Read, and working on various projects including an online home management software and our real estate investment company, which outside of spending time with my wonderful wife and family, are my main focus this year.

My strengths according to StrengthsFinder 2.0 are: Achiever, Learner, Harmony, Consistency and Focus.  I have found these strengths to mesh well with the real estate industry and I am applying my talents and abilities to create as much value as I can.  Working a full-time job, dabbling in a few business ventures and training for an Ironman takes up a considerable amount of my time.

Beyond

Having opened my mind to the endless possibilities of the future and adopting many of The Success Principles, I have a very strong outlook for the future with plenty of ambitions to match.  I review my goals daily to keep me focused on what I can do today and to remind me of my long-term goals for the future.
